Matt Ruscigno, MPH RDN straddles the worlds of nutrition/dietetics and endurance athletics. He has been a Registered Dietitian since 2003, when he also earned his Masters degree in Public Health Nutrition from Loma Linda University, and is a Past Chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He previously served as an Instructor in Nutrition and Health at Los Angeles District Community College, and for many years as a Public Health Dietitian for Network for a Healthy California. The beneficiaries of his nutrition expertise have ranged from patients at low-income health clinics, to medical staff attending Grand Rounds lectures at UCLA King Drew Medical Center, to organizations such as Physicians Committee, Today's Dietitian, Vegan Outreach and Dietitians for Professional Integrity.
Matt himself is a longtime accomplished competitive endurance and ultra-distance athlete, involving numerous formats such as running, cycling and triathlons, but he has also done extensive work in advising athletes about nutrition and health promotion. He has co-authored several books, such as his collaboration with Enette Larson-Meyer, "Plant-Based Sports Nutrition”.
Matt has been active in developing innovative programs focused on the prevention and reversal of pre-diabetes through plant-based nutrition. He has also long been a consultant and speaker in private practice, presenting hundreds of lectures, and he served for eight years on the nonprofit Board of Directors for Plant-based Prevention Of Disease, Inc. He has been a vegan for a quarter of a century, and his motto is: “Demand the impossible! Of yourself and of the world.”
