Uma Raman, MD received her Doctorate in Medicine from New Jersey Medical School (Rutgers) and her BS in psychology from the University of Arizona, and is a pediatric resident at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Philadelphia. She is the Pennsylvania American Academy of Pediatrics Representative for the Pennsylvania Safety Alliance, and the Resident Member of the Pennsylvania American Academy of Pediatrics Advocacy Committee.
Dr. Raman's community advocacy efforts are well reflected by her service as Coordinator of Safe Kids Philly Gun Buy Back, and for 5 years as Student Director for the Community Violence Research Initiative in Newark NJ. She is the principal author of two peer-reviewed journal articles, on Hopelessness, Substance Use, and Perpetuation of Violence in an Urban Environment, and on Resident Perspectives on Palliative Care at an Urban Teaching Hospital.
