​Liana Lianov, MD MPH FACPM FACLM DipABLM earned her Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Nevada Medical School, and proceeded with trainings and credentialing in multiple medical specialties: Internal Medicine, via an internship at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix and a residency at Baylor University Medical Center; Public Health, via a Masters degree at the University of California Berkeley; Preventive Medicine, via a residency at the California Department of Health Services; Psychiatry, via a Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco and San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center; and Lifestyle Medicine, via her third board certification, through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM). Her range of expertise spanning these medical disciplines is rarely matched, and she has transcended the usual bounds of the specialties to become a distinguished innovator and educator in the area of Positive Psychology, as well as a key visionary figure in the evolution of the Lifestyle Medicine field as we know it today.
Dr. Lianov previously served as President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and founding Vice-Chair of ABLM, and led the development of the first Lifestyle Medicine Core Competencies for physicians and health professionals, and she remains lead faculty for the applicable Core Competencies course offered by ACLM and the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM). Other longtime positions at ACLM include lead faculty for the Physician and Health Professional Wellbeing Program, Chair of the Happiness Science and Positive Health Committee, and Editorial Board member for the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, and she was named by ACLM as a Trailblazer in 2022 and as a Fellow in 2016. She has similarly been honored as a Fellow and with a Distinguished Service Award by ACPM, which she has served for many years as Medical Consultant in its Diabetes Prevention Program under funding by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and as Behavioral and Mental Health faculty for its Board Review Course. She also in the past received the Public Health Recognition Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the California Department of Health Services, and she is the former Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Division and of the Medicine and Public Health Division at the American Medical Association.
Dr. Lianov's lengthy groundbreaking work as Founder and President of the Global Positive Health Institute, Inc. education/training nonprofit, as President and Leadership Group member of the Positive Health and Wellness Division at the International Positive Psychology Association, and more recently as Assistant Professor at the Center for Positive Health Sciences, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, showcases her commitment to advancing healthcare on a worldwide scale. She has spearheaded latter-day efforts to integrate into medical practice the science of positive psychology for facilitating positive health – a state of health beyond that achieved by addressing traditional risk factors. She is the editor and co-author of Roots of Positive Change, Optimizing Health Care with Positive Psychology, the author of Strengths in the Mirror, Thriving Now and Tomorrow, and author or co-author of four other books, four textbook chapters and thirteen articles in peer-reviewed journals.
