Atlanta Local Public Transportation: MARTA Trains, Buses
THE RED AND GOLD TRAINS OF THE "AIRPORT" MARTA TRAIN LINE ARE THE ONES USEFUL FOR THE P-POD CONFERENCE. These are the MARTA system pages for the Red and Gold lines.
From north toward south, here are the Red and Gold MARTA train stations that can support access to the P-POD Conference site (Emory University Hospital Midtown, 550 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta GA 30308) or the hotels arranged for possible lodging:
-
Medical Center--RED LINE ONLY--400 foot walk from Hyatt House hotel.
-
Arts Center--RED & GOLD LINES--0.3 mile / 6 min. walk from Atlanta Marriott hotel.
-
Midtown--RED & GOLD LINES--0.4 mile / 9 min. walk from Atlanta Marriott hotel.
-
North Ave.--RED & GOLD LINES--1/3rd mile / 8 min. walk to P-POD.
-
Civic Center--RED & GOLD LINES--1/5th mile / 4 min. walk to P-POD.
-

HERE ARE MAPS WE MADE FOR P-POD ATTENDEES TO SUPPORT USE OF TRAINS IF DESIRED:
-

-
WALKING MAP from NORTH AVE. train station to P-POD site at the hospital.
-
WALKING MAP from CIVIC CENTER train station to P-POD site at the hospital.
LOCAL BUS SERVICE IN ATLANTA. It is possible that Atlanta's city bus service, with its long hours of availability on the weekends and frequent trip scheduling, could be useful for some individuals for P-POD attendance. There are TWO main examples of bus routes that may help.
The Route 40 Atlanta MARTA city bus serves Emory University Hospital Midtown (the P-POD location), and runs north/south on Peachtree St. NE right past the hospital. For example, if you were to stay at the Atlanta Marriott Suites hotel, you could walk east about 5 minutes to Peachtree St. at 14th St. NE to get the bus. It travels straight south roughly 8 minutes on Peachtree St. NE to reach the Renaissance Parkway stop just outside the hospital, about a minute's walk from the main entrance.
As described below on this page, Amtrak service to/from Atlanta is very limited, and its hours would be inconvenient for most situations. However, if Amtrak is utilized, then there is one way to connect it to local public transportation. The Route 110 Atlanta MARTA city bus stops just under 2 blocks (500 feet) from the Amtrak station, at Peachtree St NE north of Deering Rd NW, and it runs from there about 4 minutes south to its end-of-the-line, Arts Center MARTA train station, where you can use the Red and Gold MARTA trains to reach P-POD or its arranged hotels.
June 6-7 Air Travel, Airport, Amtrak
AIR TRAVEL. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport serves more passengers than any other airport in the world:
-
Address: 6000 North Terminal Parkway, Atlanta GA 30320
-
Phone: 800-897-1910.
-
10.5 driving miles to conference site, Emory University Hospital Midtown Glenn Bldg., 550 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta GA 30308. Distances to hotels arranged by P-POD are shown in our HOTELS section below.
-
Served by 28 domestic and international airlines
-
Columbus GA, 109 miles.
-
Greenville SC, 143 miles.
There are numerous forms of ground transportation that may be taken from the airport into Atlanta, such as MARTA local trains described on this page, and other services listed on the airport's website such as shuttles, taxis and rideshare services.
AMTRAK. A transportation oddity: Though Atlanta is the busiest air travel hub, its long-distance Amtrak train service has only one arrival and one departure per day, resulting in inconvenient hours. It may be extremely unlikely to be useful for P-POD travelers, but here are examples of daily train times for its nearest stations:
-
Arrive from the southwest: Birmingham AL 5:24pm, Anniston AL 6:59pm, Atlanta GA 11:00pm.
-
Leave toward the southwest: Atlanta GA 9:08am, Anniston AL 10:30am, Birmingham AL 1:03pm.
-
Arrive from the northeast: Greenville SC 5:31am, Clemson SC 6:09am, Toccoa GA 6:45am, Gainesville GA 7:28am, Atlanta GA 8:43am.
-
Leave toward the northeast: Atlanta GA 11:29pm, Gainesville GA 12:24am, Toccoa GA 1:05am, Clemson SC 1:41am, Greenville SC 2:23am.
Amtrak location/links:
-
Station: Peachtree Station, 1688 Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta GA 30309, 2.6 driving miles from P-POD's site.
-
If wishing to use the local metro MARTA trains after an Amtrak arrival, you would first need to take the Route 110 Atlanta MARTA city bus, which stops just under 2 blocks (500 feet) from the Amtrak station, at Peachtree St NE north of Deering Rd NW, and it runs from there about 4 minutes south to its end-of-the-line, Arts Center MARTA train station, where you can use the Red and Gold MARTA trains to reach P-POD or its arranged hotels.

June 6-7 Travel by Car, and Parking
The Saturday June 6 to Sunday June 7 in-person location is the Auditorium in:
-
Emory University Hospital Midtown Glenn Building, 550 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta GA 30308.
This is located on the west side of Peachtree St. NE between Pine St. NE and Renaissance Parkway NE. If you are driving northbound on Peachtree St. NE, then about 200 feet after Pine St. NE, you will see, on the left side of the street, the large blue sign shown in the image below, and you should there turn left into the driveway lanes and follow "PARKING" signs ahead.

DRIVING MILES to the conference from the centers of various cities outside the general area of Atlanta, are:
-
Athens GA, 72 miles.
-
Augusta GA, 151 miles.
-
Birmingham AL, 149 miles.
-
Chattanooga TN, 116 miles.
-
Columbus GA, 109 miles.
-
Greenville SC, 143 miles.
-
Huntsville AL, 178 miles.
-
Macon GA, 87 miles.
PARKING:
The building in which P-POD is located is attached to a parking garage, which is reachable as described above. "Level F" in the parking garage will bring you by walking to the Glenn Auditorium where the conference takes place. A parking receipt-ticket is taken upon entry to the garage and the charge is paid upon exiting later. The rates are as follows:
-
up to 6 hours, $6
-
up to 7 hours, $8
-
up to 12 hours, $12 (almost everyone would need this)
-
over 12 hours, $16
For out-of-towners using hotels, overnight-parking rates at arranged hotels are shown in our HOTELS section below.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING:
This Google Maps link shows, as of April 13, 2026, 10 electric vehicle charging stations within a mile and a quarter driving distance from the P-POD conference site, and one of these just 0.4 miles away.
2 Hotel Options for Atlanta, Prices Guaranteed to May 5th
P-POD has arranged room blocks at $139-$142 + tax (+ parking if needed) per night at two Tripadvisor 4.0-out-of-5.0-or-higher rated hotels that are 2-to-3, or 5-to-6, stops away from the conference on Atlanta's MARTA metro train line. (Book by May 5th.) These guaranteed prices are the best we could get at suitable hotels of their rating level, within a reasonable distance from P-POD.
ALL DETAILS about the two hotels are below, but THESE QUESTIONS MAY HELP YOU CHOOSE:
-
ARE YOU NOT BRINGING A CAR? The Marriott becomes favorable because of its fairly brief local-public-transportation trip to/from P-POD.
-
ARE YOU BRINGING A CAR BUT WILL NOT DRIVE FROM THE HOTEL TO P-POD? The $30/day difference in parking costs makes the Hyatt House favorable, because (1) normal average MARTA local train travel time in each direction is only 12 to 16 minutes longer for Hyatt House, while (2) its walking time to get to the station is 4 to 7 minutes shorter.
-
ARE YOU BRINGING A CAR AND WILL DRIVE FROM THE HOTEL TO P-POD, THOUGH THE UNIVERSITY CHARGES $12/DAY PARKING AT P-POD? You should consider these two issues: (1) Hyatt House saves $30/day hotel parking; (2) On day-of-conference, Marriott avoids 11.2 extra central-Atlanta-driving-miles in each direction between hotel and P-POD.
ALL the following are TRUE for BOTH hotels:
-
Tripadvisor ratings scoring at least 4.0 out of 5 for Cleanliness, Service and Sleep Quality (more details on this are in the chart below)
-
6 minutes or less walking distance to an Atlanta train station on the MARTA line leading to P-POD and (much farther) to the Atlanta international airport
-
"Business center" available
-
Fitness center available
-
Laundry self-service machines access
-
Refrigerators/microwaves in room
-
Smoke-free hotel
-
Work desk in room
-
NO airport shuttle run by the hotel
-
Minimum check-in age 21
