Travel and Parking
Air Travel
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), 2400 Terminal Blvd., Morrisville NC 27560-9217, is 12.5 miles from the conference center and from our optional university campus lodging site, Wolf Village Apartments, 2730 Wolf Village Way, Raleigh NC 27607. The airport is served by car share, regulated-rate taxi and local bus. Please note that a daily-commuting rental car is unnecessary if you stay at on-campus housing.
RDU is served by the airlines Aero Mexico, Air Canada, AirFrance, Alaska, American, Avelo, Bahamas Air, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, IcelandAir, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country and United.
Long Distance Train
Raleigh NC is also directly reachable by Amtrak trains originating as far north as New York City or south as Florida, and across the state from Charlotte and Rocky Mount. See Raleigh's station location and a route map. Check possible dates/times/prices HERE.
Local Bus
The GoRaleigh organization (main site HERE and system map HERE) operates 27 Raleigh bus routes and co-manages 5 routes linking it to major nearby cities of Durham and Chapel Hill as well as the airport. Some routes could facilitate local transportation to P-POD's site at McKimmon Center, 1101 Gorman St., Raleigh NC 27606 in the South Campus of North Carolina State University.
Car Travel
Here are some sample one-way driving distances from well-known cities to P-POD's site in Raleigh NC. Asheville NC: 244 miles; Baltimore MD: 313 miles; Charleston SC: 283 miles; Charleston WV: 316 miles; Charlotte NC: 163 miles; Charlottesville VA: 178 miles; Columbia SC: 229 miles; Richmond VA: 160 miles; Virginia Beach VA: 207 miles; Washington DC: 267 miles.
Parking
Parking at our conference site, McKimmon Conference Center, is free and plentiful, and electric car charging stations are available. If you stay in our walking-distance campus apartments, parking is free at the apartment site from 5 pm Friday through 7 am Monday. Outside of these hours, the rate is $10/day, which may be paid in advance during the housing part of our online registration process. To avoid parking charges during metered hours, you may move your car to McKimmon Center.
Walkable Lodging
P-POD is offering WALKING-DISTANCE on-campus housing as one option for registrants not from the local area, for economy, ease of access and potentially a greater sense of P-POD community. Please see our page for the campus apartments that may be booked as part of our regular online registration process.

Hotel Options
We highlight use of walking-distance campus apartments (above), which have been the primary choice of attendees, staff and speakers alike, but Raleigh does offer a variety of good-quality hotels, and individuals might prioritize choosing hotel-style beds over student-style beds. We have always set up room blocks with guaranteed P-POD rates at a few Raleigh hotels, and in several past years we set up shuttles run by hotels to the conference, but no hotel today is willing and able to provide transportation.
We have always arranged P-POD price blocks only at 100%-non-smoking hotels that were rated at least at 4 stars out of 5 in key Tripadvisor review categories, with price range seeming reasonable for attendees, and distance no more than about 4 miles.
Please see detailed summaries below for FOUR hotels confirmed for 2024. Holiday Inn and TownePlace Suites are closest, Red Roof is least expensive and Wingate is the one with which we have the longest experience (since 2015). All of them have free parking, free wifi, check-in 3 pm, checkout 11 am (except TownePlace noon), and availability Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
